Event Details

Kintsugi is the ancient Japanese art of repairing pottery. It involves repairing broken pieces of pottery together using gold to create an even stronger and more beautiful piece of art. Every break is unique and instead of repairing an item to make it like new, this 400 year old form highlights the damage as part of its design, thereby embracing the flaws and imperfections. I will be taking you through how this technique can be achieved in a fun and creative way.

The workshop comprises of a 2-hour session with an introduction to the background of the Kintsugi technique. Each client is given their own personalised craft toolbox containing all the items they need for the class. The clients will have the opportunity to select the pieces of pottery that they would like to work on. The pottery items are then broken by the client in a controlled manner with all the necessary safety protocols being followed. The clients are then guided through the repair process. The 2-hour session usually allows 2 pieces of pottery to be repaired. The craft pieces can be taken home in the personalised craft toolbox. They are beautiful mementoes of the day which can be used as ornaments or as gifts.
